Most of the park was acquired just after Ms. Carson's death in 1964, although there have been periodic acquisitions through 1990. Like other M-NCPPC conservation parks, Rachel Carson Conservation Park remains undeveloped. | | Event Sponsored:  | Events Planned:  • Hike/Walk: 2 mile(s) • Trail Maintenance/Construction: .5 mile(s) | | Pre Registration: Yes | | Event Description: Celebrate National Trails Day (www.americanhiking.org/NTD.aspx) by by putting in some 'sweat equity' into the trails of this jewel of a park in northeastern Montgomery County. Those volunteering will help with a variety of fixes big and small including installing signage, improving tread drainage, and minor re-routes.
The project begins at 9:00am and runs until 1pm. Work is rain or shine (within reason) and is led by a trained trails volunteer. Call (301) 258-0281 for weather cancellation info.
Volunteers may leave as needed, so long as they inform staff of their departure. SSL approved. Volunteers under 18 should be accompanied by an adult, and the minimum age for volunteers is 14.
Please bring work gloves, water, a snack, and a small backpack to hold them while you hike. Tools are provided. |
