Come to Washington, DC to lobby for your favorite trails and "Hike the Hill" during Trails Advocacy
ADVOCACY WEEK 2008

In February 2008, American Hiking and the Partnership for the National Trails System hosted Hike the Hill: Trails Advocacy Week 2008 in Washington D.C. More than 50 trails advocates met with members of Congress and federal agency staff to enhance federal funding for the protection, maintenance and establishment of National Scenic and Historic Trails and in support of the National Landscape Conservation System Act - legislation that will permanently recognize the Bureau of Land Management's National landscape Conservation System, 26 million acres of great hiking and natural resources in the west.  American Hiking engaged Federal Agencies and Congress in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the passage of the National Trails System Act. A Congressional reception and awards banquet also were held on Capitol Hill.

Come to Washington, DC to lobby for your trails and "Hike the Hill" during Trails Advocacy Week 2008. Trails Advocacy Week 2008 will focus on the national scenic and historic trails within the National Trails System and be co-hosted by American Hiking Society and the Partnership for the National Trails System (PNTS). The PNTS Leadership Council and Board Meetings will take place February 9-10 in conjunction with Trails Advocacy Week.
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?
You  are the best advocate for your trails, and your voice matters!
The efforts of Trails Advocacy Week participants over the years have clearly contributed to increased    funding and awareness for many trails and the National Trails System.
Trails Advocacy Week helps increase the credibility and capabilities of trail organizations and advocates    through strengthened relationships with congressional and federal agency staff.
Network with trail leaders from around the country about critical trail funding and policy issues.
Organizations that have participated consistently over several years and with more than one person    attending have benefited enormously.
Every conceivable cause has its advocates. If Congress doesn’t hear from you, other interests will    influence priorities and gain funding and support that should go to trails.
