NATIONAL LANDSCAPE CONSERVATION SYSTEM
 

Are you looking for a new challenge this year, someplace away from the crowded,
backyard trails you know and love? Here’s our advice: go explore these spectacular,
unknown rivers and trails. You’ll find the hiking challenges and solitude you’ve been looking for. Tucked away in the newest and least known land conservation system — the National Landscape Conservation System — these ten rivers and trails provide a wide range of recreation activities for even the most jaded outdoor enthusiast. The West has long been home to some of the most awe-inspiring recreational adventures in the United States. More than 26 million acres of unknown adventure terrain, and 13 National Scenic and Historic Trails lie waiting for discovery in the National Landscape Conservation System. American Rivers and American Hiking Society partnered to suggest these following places as the best introduction to this little known recreational treasure.
