American Hiking Society and many trail and hiking organizations across the country recognize the need to educate young people about trail maintenance, conservation, and policy. American Hiking seeks to involve youth in our programs such as National Trails Day to cultivate the next generation of trail stewards. If you are a young person who is curious about getting involved with trails, check out the Alliance of Hiking Organizations , American Hiking Society's member organizations. Here you will find a list of hiking organizations by state - there may be one near you! Also, find hiking information in News and Resources . Parents and kids can also download fact sheets about Family Hiking and Hanks Hiking Handout, a fun activity list for young hikers. You will need Adobe Reader to print or view PDF files. Get it here for free.
