American Hiking Announces Passage of Path-Breaking Law
American Hiking Society announces the passage of the Omnibus Public Lands Act sweeping legislation that protects two million acres of Wilderness, 5,000 miles of trails, 1000 miles of rivers, and officially recognizes the 26-million-acre National Landscape Conservation System. Not since the National Park System was created in 1916 has a single action of Congress had a greater positive impact on the hiking experience. This is a terrific achievement for all hikers and a 'crowning achievement' for American Hiking Society, as we've been working for four years on key elements of this all-encompassing trails, wilderness, and conservation bill(s). For more details on our longstanding efforts to pass this landmark legislation, visit our Western Public Lands Initiative. http://www.americanhiking.org/WPLI.aspx.

The Florida National Scenic Trail: Forget the rumors -- it's not all wet. Stretching through two time zones on its 1,400-mile journey through the Sunshine State, the Florida Trail climbs rolling sandhills shaded by tall longleaf pines, leading hikers along rugged rocky bluffs where the aroma of wild azalea fills the air and tempting them to dip their toes in the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
