AMERICAN HIKING INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

American Hiking Society, the only national organization dedicated to promoting and protecting foot trails and the hiking experience, offers internships throughout the year to students in both our Silver Spring, Maryland and Chattanooga, Tennessee offices. We welcome interns who want to learn about non-profit management, recreation and conservation policy, volunteer programs, communications, fundraising and development. Each intern receives a diverse and well rounded experience– from attending and reporting on congressional hearings to writing articles for our American Hiker magazine to helping coordinate our Volunteer Vacations and National Trails Day programs.

American Hiking Society provides an exciting and creative, yet relaxed non-profit atmosphere. Currently, there are different areas of specialization prospective interns may choose from: Policy, Trail Programs, and Grassroots Organizing; however, there may be significant overlap between areas depending on the intern's skills and interests as well as departmental needs. Those interested in other areas of focus are always welcome to apply. Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong research and organizational skills, and demonstrated interest in conservation and/or outdoor recreation.
